Transport at road
Transporting 1.5 million tonnes of recycled waste each year requires a lot of planning and work. Most of the volumes are delivered to clients in Scandinavia, the Baltic states and Northern Europe.
Between 800,000 and 1,000,000 tonnes are delivered by truck every year and we are constantly endeavouring to plan our logistics for this transport in the optimum way. We have logistics teams in each Ragn-Sells country and they work closely together to minimise our environmental impact and save money. One of the ways in which we do this is by using trucks with a low environmental impact, i.e. Euro 5-6 engines and biodiesel.
We send 30-40 trucks every working day from Norway to Sweden and Northern Europe. In addition we undertake 15,000-16,000 trips a year from Swedish treatment plants to final destinations!
Our routes take us in and out of almost all of the countries in which Ragn-Sells operates. We try to make route lists for our suppliers in the transport sector to minimise the number of journeys without any goods. After unloading, our carriers can sometimes take a return load of some other type of recyclable material.
We aim to identify more opportunities to make cost savings and reduce the environmental impact caused by our transport operations.
